What cookies and local storage are
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device. Local storage is a similar browser feature that lets a site save small pieces of information so it can remember them on your next visit. Both are used to make websites work, keep them secure, remember choices, measure traffic, and show advertising.
Our approach
We aim to use as little as possible. The features you use, such as saved names, rely on local storage. Advertising and analytics technologies are optional, and where the law requires consent we ask for it before they run. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.
Categories of storage we use
| Category | Purpose | Consent needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keeps the Site working and secure, and remembers features you ask for, such as saved names and generator settings. | No |
| Analytics (if enabled) | Helps us understand traffic and improve the Site, for example which pages are visited. | Yes, where required by law |
| Advertising (if enabled) | Lets our advertising partners deliver ads, limit repeats, measure performance, detect invalid traffic, and, with consent, personalize ads. | Yes, where required by law |
What we store in your browser today
| Key | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
dkng:favs | Remembers the names you save with the heart button. | Until you remove the names or clear your browser’s site data. |
dkng:prefs | Remembers your last style, name format, starting letter, batch size, and Cheeky mode setting. | Until you clear your browser’s site data. |
These items are used only for the features you choose and are never sent to us. The optional “Your first name” field is not stored at all.
Third-party cookies
If advertising or analytics are enabled, those providers may set their own cookies. We do not control them, and their use is governed by their own policies. Examples of what they may do include recognizing your browser across visits, limiting how often you see the same ad, and measuring whether an ad was shown.
Hosting, security, and content-delivery services may also set technical cookies that are needed to deliver the Site safely and reliably.
How to manage your choices
- On the Site. When a consent banner is shown, choose which categories to allow. You can reopen the privacy settings later to change your mind.
- In your browser. Most browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies and site data in their settings. Blocking local storage keeps the generator working but your favorites and settings will not be remembered between visits.
- Opt out of interest-based ads. Visit optout.aboutads.info, optout.networkadvertising.org, or youronlinechoices.com.
- Global Privacy Control. Turn on GPC in a supporting browser and we will treat it as an opt-out of sale or sharing where the law requires it.
If you clear site data, your saved names and settings are removed.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if we add or change the cookies and storage we use. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the latest version.
